Dana Acker

Welcome to my virtual home-base, where you can find samples of my work as a bassist, composer, percussionist and producer.

Dana’s musical journey started as a teenager in upstate New York, where he gigged and recorded with several rock/pop, fusion, jazz and R&B bands. His early influences included Jaco Pastorious, Marcus Miller, Verdine White, Ray Brown, Ron Carter, and Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen. Eventually moving to Boston, he was offered the Jazz Masters and Abe Laboriel scholarships to attend Berklee, where he studied electric bass and Jazz composition. Dana has gigged and recorded extensively throughout the Boston area and New England as part of the Acker Bros. Duo, Trio, and Quartet, and the Gypsy Jazz group Acker/Bressler Trio. He currently performs and tours with The Henry Acker Trio as well as his own Jazz and Gypsy Jazz Trios – Fri. Nite 3ō and Dana Acker TRio Manouche.

Dana is currently doing freelance gigs and recording sessions for-hire independently in various groups, primarily jazz combos. He also maintains a home recording studio, and is available to record professional, high quality, quick turn-around bass tracks upon request. In addition to Dana’s active career as an acoustic/electric bassist, he was an administrator in the Office of Admissions, and Director of Summer Programs at Berklee College of Music for more than two decades.

In addition to Dana’s currently available album Soul for Sale, The Acker Bros. have released several commercially available CD’s. He is a published composer whose compositions have been placed in TV, film and advertising.
